Where is happiness?

Happiness – ever tried to find it?

Many people claim to have spent their lives in the pursuit of happiness. For some, this is just an excuse for drinking. risky behaviour and really wild parties. For others, it’s meeting the type of people who routinely get invited to those kinds of parties.

For the rest of us, how can we find happiness? Will it just happen, like a realisation that you are in the right place at the right time? Will it be a one-off event that now appears to have happened yesterday? It’s certainly quite an illusive thing. I would argue that happiness is temporary, it’s a state we pass through, but it is possible to find the source or have more of it? Perhaps we can bottle it or keep it in the fridge?

Many people in society seem to be unhappy, or suffering from negativity, anxiousness or a lack of regular happiness events or things that bring them any joy. So – it’s quite a serious problem, right?

To help with philosophical quest and to understand more about happiness and where it’s at, I have signed up to an event at the Museum of Happiness, a social enterprise that helps people experience more of the good stuff.

They also train happiness facilitators with some tips and tricks to help others understand the topic and get to grips with their own quest for sunshine and inner joy.

As I am a bit of learning geek (a.k.a. Instructional designer) and someone who creates a happiness generating podcast (Cheeky chops), it seems an appropriate move. Learning and happiness combined – I’m in!

Hopefully I will return, brandishing the Holy grail of jolliness or wielding the Excalibur of amusement in a few weeks. I’ll update you on my findings.

I hope you are finding time to pursue some of your goals, however esoteric or unusual they may seem. Make sure they are positive experiences e.g. think twice about scheduling a trip to the Hall of Despair and avoid tickets to World of Disappointment if offered, the reviews are not very favourable.

When the opportunity presents, go to your happy place!
